This sponsorship is a demonstration of the company’s commitment to skills development and supporting initiatives which facilitate the sharing of knowledge to change people’s realities.
Maxwell Pirikisi, Divisional Director for Group Stakeholder Management at Liberty encouraged the students to work towards their dreams. “Liberty is an organisation which strives towards sharing knowledge and changing realities. The more we share what we have with others, the bigger a difference we will make in our communities. We would like to encourage the students who will be assisted by this bursary fund to persevere in their studies and come back and make an impact in their communities,” he said.
The Mitchells Plain Bursary and Role Models Trust was established in 2010 with Minister in the Presidency responsible for the National Planning Commission (NPC) Mr Trevor Manuel as the founding trustee. The trust seeks to award deserving Matriculants from within the Mitchells Plain community with access to further education and training at colleges and universities across the Western Cape.
Liberty’s involvement in the Mitchell’s Plain community is long-standing. In 2011, Liberty Properties made an investment of over R500 million into the Liberty Promenade Shopping centre adding an additional 24 000m2 to the centre bringing it to a total of 86 000m2. This is an increase of close to 30% in the complex’s retail real estate. Liberty Promenade is celebrating ten years of operation this year. Liberty Properties also recently embarked on an urban greening project at Beacon View Primary School in partnership with Aveng Grinaker LTA amongst other projects. This project further entrenches Liberty’s commitment to the community.
“Our involvement in communities is our way of giving back and showing our support for the communities in which we operate. Knowledge in action can make a big difference and we willcontinue to roll up our sleeves and make an impact where we can,” concluded Pirikisi.
